The oral granules can be given directly in the mouth, dissolved in a teaspoonful of cold or room-temperature baby formula or breast milk, or mixed with a spoonful of cold or room-temperature soft applesauce, strained carrots, rice, or ice cream.
It is not known if Singulair® (montelukast sodium) passes through breast milk. However, because of the potentially serious side effects that could occur in the nursing infant, the manufacturer of the drug recommends that it be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding or planning to start, make sure to let your healthcare provider know.
DOSING: The recommended dose of montelukast is 4, 5, or 10 mg daily. The 4 and 5 mg tablets are used in children. Montelukast should be taken in the evening with or without food.
